Bands like this can be called a variety of names – mini bands, resistance bands, versa loops, monster bands, or any other term that you may be familiar with. The confusion here is that sometimes different products are referred to with the same name. In this article I’m going to be talking about bands that are structured in loops that are flat not tubular. For the purpose of this article, so that we are all on the same page, I’m going to refer to these flat, looped bands as mini bands. Here are a few reasons you should incorporate mini bands into your workouts:
A set of mini bands is fairly inexpensive and can be bought at your local Target or online on Amazon. You can choose if you want one band or five, starting around $5, depending on the number of bands you choose to purchase. I like to have a variety because mini bands come with different resistance levels (i.e. light, medium, heavy, etc.) so you can have different a different resistance for certain exercises or fitness levels.
2. Travel Easily
If you’re on the go a lot, mini bands can be a great way to “bring the gym” with you! Whether you’re bringing them on cross-country trips for work, or just bringing them along to your local gym to use in your workout, they will slip easily into your suitcase or gym bag and be there when you want to use them. A lot of these sets of mini bands will come with a pouch to carry them in, which makes take-along super convenient!
3. Work Muscles that are Hard to Get to
Have you ever noticed that there are some muscles or parts of your body that you find are just really hard to exercise? Mini bands can help with that! For instance, once of the places on women that tends to be really weak is the hip area. We spend a lot of time working on our thighs and booties, but don’t spend too much time on our hips, which can lead to a whole host of problems. Mini bands can really help you work into that hip area, providing extra resistance to strengthen more than you could just with bodyweight alone.
4. Easy on the Joints
Minibands offer a great way to incorporate a change to your normal workout routine, without having to do a lot of high impact training or adding tons of extra weight with dumbbells or bars. And there are many reasons that you often shouldn’t be incorporating heavy weight or high impact – injury, certain stages of pregnancy, being uncomfortable with the movement, symptomatic postpartum recovery…and the list goes on! Working minibands into your training will be easy on your joints, while still providing you with some additional resistance to help build strength.
5. Adds Variety toTraining
If you have been exercising on a regular basis for awhile, you may just be looking for something new to spice things up. Or maybe you aren’t comfortable with dumbbells and you are looking for something to help ease you into strength training. Whatever your reason is for wanting variety in your training, minibands are a great option.
As you can see, there are a lot of great benefits to purchasing a set of minibands and incorporating them into your daily workouts. Start building strength and working your accessory muscles with just a few dollars of investment. Keep an eye out throughout the week for some of my favorite miniband exercises!
