1. The Mommy Makeover
The “Mommy Makeover” is a procedure that has gained popularity with celebrities recently and can include a little work, or a lot of work, depending on how much money you want to spend. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, here are some of the procedures that can be included in the “Mommy Makeover”:
i. Abdominoplasty – a procedure to trim your waistline and make it flatter and firmer
ii. Liposuction – removes fat from problem areas that have been resistant to exercise and diet
iii. Breast lift – reduces sagging and can restore the look your breasts had pre-baby
iv. Other procedures can be done to the pelvic area, back, hips, or legs as wanted to restore the body to the way it was before pregnancy
This is a relatively new technique that freezes fat cells to diminish their appearance. The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery says that using this procedure will reduce fat without damaging other tissues, but it can take several months before results can be seen. Patients also need several treatments in order for fat cells to be reduced.
Diet has always been one of the main factors in weight loss; and for celebrities that have access to personal chefs or weight loss plans that cost a significant amount of money, eating well is made much easier. For instance, a diet that a lot of celebrities are currently using is called the Proteifine diet and according to nutritionist Kim Pearson, this can cost almost $30 per day. As nice as it would be – we don’t all have access to personal chefs or an extra $30 per day just for our own food.
4. Personal Trainers
Having a personal trainer can be a great source of help in pregnancy fitness and postpartum weight loss. However, just like special diet food, they can also be pretty pricey, especially if you want a good one. You may be able to afford a few sessions at a time or go every once in awhile, but it can be difficult to train with a professional on a consistent basis.
Nannies may be a little bit more attainable for the average person, but can still be costly, especially on a daily basis. Celebrities have access to professional nannies to watch the baby and any other children they may have whenever they want/need to get a workout in. Not having to worry about the baby makes it easier to get consistent workouts in.
My whole point in discussing these things is to bring a little bit of realism to what you see in the media. It’s easy to see pictures in magazines or online and compare yourself to where celebrities are in their postpartum recovery. They have access to waaaay more than the average person to aid in their recovery post-baby (plus, remember that most of the photos you see are photoshopped!) Don’t compare. Every woman and every postpartum journey is different. Make a plan for your postpartum recovery and stick to it.
