3 Benefits of Lower Body Workouts

If you do a quick google search looking for workouts, you will find all kinds from barre to yoga to HIIT. While each style of workout has its own benefits, this week, I’m going to focus on the lower body. Strong glutes, quads and hamstrings are essential for functioning optimally on a daily basis; and having good lower leg strength – such as calves and ankles – are very beneficial as well. Here’s why:

1. Increased metabolism

Your lower body contains some of the largest muscles in your body! When these muscles get exercised in a targeted workout, it not only increases your calorie burn during exercise, but you will also burn more calories throughout the day, even when you’re just chilling on the couch!

2. Boosted Stamina

You may not be planning on participating in the next Spartan race, but good stamina is important for women from all walks of life. Whether it’s chasing your kids around the house or powering through your errands for the day, the more stamina you have, the better you will feel throughout your activities and at the end of the day as well.

3. Better Stability

Balance and stability are two often overlooked aspects of daily life. You don’t really go throughout your day thinking that you need better balance. But what about when you have a baby on your hip, and you have to reach down and get something? What about when you have to step over a large toy with one leg and pick up your toddler? There are a million different ways that our bodies need to stabilize each day and good lower body strength is the foundation of good stability.
